A new Nurse Resident opportunity is available on the Internal Medicine/Medical Surgical unit at the Henry Ford Hospital located on West Grand Blvd. in midtown Detroit.• Position: Full time 36 hours• Shift: Midnights 7pm to 7:30 a• Benefits: Full time benefit packageGENERAL OVERVIEW:• The unit has 18 beds.• This is an Internal Medicine unit.• The most common patient cases include liver failure, pneumonia, altered mental status, GI bleed, and sepsis.Important notes about this program:• This is a program for new grads. Nurses with more than six months of experience would not qualify.• New grad Canadians are not eligible for this program unless they have a current Michigan nursing license and US visa screen certificatePROGRAM OVERVIEW:Henry Ford Health System (HFHS) Nurse Residency Program is designed to assist the novice nurse transitioning from entry-level advanced beginner to competent professional nurse. The twelve month program will be facilitated by academic and clinical faculty/preceptors engaged in the progressive development of critical thinking and clinical reasoning skills. The RN Residency program supports the novice nurse in the delivery of safe, quality care within a collaborative inter-professional healthcare team environment. Additional support will be provided to the nurse residents in the form of peer groups, competency reviews and workshops.New nurses participate in a 16 week specific unit training program. They also participate in a monthly four hour group work session as part of a small group with a nurse facilitator to learn about and explore the following areas:• Professional development• Performance improvement and evidence based clinical practice• Ethical decision making• Stress management• Business of healthcareNew grad nurses can apply prior to taking the NCLEX. The requirements for the program are:• After the 16 week unit training the next 8 to 12 months the Nurse Residents meet with their group and facilitator to discuss and work on leadership, patient safety outcomes, and professional development.• Nurse Residents must pass their NCLEX within 45 days of hire. If one doesn’t pass the exam, they would be moved down to the Nurse Assistant position until the NCLEX is taken and passed the second time.• The Nurse Residents will complete an individual or group evidence based project.• There will be a two year commitment to the unit for participating in the Nurse Resident program.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with less than 1 year of experience in a related area of nursing practice.• Successfully passes NCLEX-RN and holds an active, unrestricted license within 45 days of hire. If unsuccessful, the RN Resident will be eligible to apply for a Nursing Assistant position until RN license is obtained.• BLS Heath care provider certification preferred.
