Title: Sr. Curriculum Designer

Currently, Meijer is looking for a Sr. Curriculum Designer. The individual selected for this position will be responsible for the following in the same capacity as curriculum designers to include: needs analysis, design, development and evaluation of high-quality training solutions and supporting instructional materials for job specific and systems training. Scope includes training curriculums, compliance related training, new / upgraded technology applications, business process changes, new business start-ups within Meijer and other new requests. Training solutions that are developed will include job specific training plans, instructor-led, web-based training, mobile learning, job aids and other creative learning as determined by the organization. The Curriculum Specialist applies Criterion-Referenced Instruction Methodology, industry best practices, as well as internal standards to ensure quality, effectiveness and impact of learning deliverables.
In addition, the Sr. Curriculum Designer will also be responsible to assist in the interviewing process, mentoring and training of new specialists or curriculum designers within Talent Development, will have demonstrated measurable business results based on using criterion-referenced methodology on several different training projects, is viewed as a subject matter expert in the areas of writing effective training objectives and training evaluation, demonstrates exceptional project management skills, business partner interactions, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively to achieve business objectives.
Key responsibilities include:
Facilitating needs analysis with business partners and stakeholders to define job tasks, desired skills / performance standards and current gaps, target population, success measures for the role, and other requirements as defined by the intake process
Designing of the entire curriculum for a job specific role - determining in partnership with the business the most critical tasks / job duties that need to be trained, writing the training objectives and skill checks, determining the sequence in which information should be taught, and determining best methodology to train needed skills to ensure successful job performance
Developing and managing the overall project plan for curriculum development and changes to the curriculum in line with the ADDIE model and overall project timeline
Conducting learning needs analysis to identify the knowledge, skills and competencies required to complete job tasks efficiently and effectively
Recommending, designing and developing creative learning solutions that include, but are not limited to eLearning, mobile learning, web-based virtual classes, Train-the-Trainer, classroom and blended learning solutions
Developing an effective instructional strategy/learning plan and designing documents for each learning solution based upon established learning objectives and the characteristics of a given target audience
Writing and editing storyboards, interactive scripts and other learning documentation
Partnering with the Instructional Designer / Storyboarder and eLearning Specialist (or 3rdparty if outsourcing is necessary) to ensure eLearning modules meet requirements and training objectives as outlined in the analysis and design phase
Designing and developing other learning documentation including job aids, how-to procedural guides, participant and facilitator guides
Ensuring training materials' content is clear and concise, accurate, consistent and free of spelling and grammatical errors
Partnering with our Learning Management System / Talent Management System Manager and Department Support to ensure appropriate changes are made to curriculums within Learning Place and our manuals portal site
Leading and participating in special projects, including the piloting of new and emerging learning technologies, learning effectiveness, learning metrics, course delivery
Evaluating the effectiveness of learning programs and making recommendations accordingly
Effectively managing interactions with stakeholders, including meeting facilitations, expectation setting and on-going project correspondence
Effectively and successfully managing multiple projects to achieve project goals and meet deadlines
Working collaboratively with corporate, regional and store level stakeholders as well as other team members within HR to achieve project goals
Additional Sr. Level Curriculum Designer responsibilities:
Assisting in the interviewing process for potential new team members within Talent Development or Human Resources
Assisting in mentoring and training of new specialists or curriculum designers within Talent Development in the areas of criterion-referenced instruction, writing training objectives, evaluation, project management, company-wide training rollouts, and other job and department specific information
* Bachelors degree, or equivalent experience with emphasis in instructional design, instructional technology or education related discipline
* Masters degree preferred
* Certification in Criterion Reference Instruction, Building Better Job Aids, and Instructional Design
* Minimum of 5-7 years experience in the instructional design of classroom, e-learning and online support solutions in corporate training environments
* This position may require travel up to 25% per year
* Demonstrated measurable business results on multiple training projects
* Experience in successfully rolling out several company-wide and large scale training programs to include coordination of communications, training supplies / equipment, train-the-trainer programs, and evaluation
* Viewed as a subject matter expert in the areas of criterion-referenced instruction, instructional design principles, training objectives and evaluation
* Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of adult learning theories
* Full knowledge of ADDIE process
* Knowledge of current and future instructional design technologies (to include e-learning, mobile learning, ILT, etc.)
* High comfort level with technology and ability to quickly learn and utilize new software applications
* Demonstrated experience in partnering with business/organizational leaders, learning consultants and facilitators to translate business objectives into effective learning solutions
* Exceptional project and time management skills to include the ability to effectively organize work, prioritize and manage time in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
* Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively to achieve business objectives
* Demonstrated ability to build effective business partner relationships and the ability to influence partners to deliver effective and highly valued solutions
