Oversees the management of all programs and assumes ultimate responsibility for deliverables to assigned customer. Sets medium to long-range strategies to support operational objectives. Determines how to implement strategic unit directives. Provides and applies broad and in-depth operational managerial/technical leadership and expertise to support Customer Business Unit (CBU) new business activities and resolve problems. Manages and motivates team toward goals and objectives. Establishes and maintains strong customer relationships on a domestic and global level. Serves as expert resource by possessing solid knowledge of Company and customer products and requirements. Ensures all programs attain established goals with a clear focus on quality, cost, delivery and complete customer satisfaction. Drives continuous improvement efforts in all areas of program management. Develops, teaches, and monitors common program management disciplines and ensures consistent use of these disciplines in all programs. Establishes CBU engineering and development budget and ensures department costs are controlled. Performs other duties as necessary.
Provides expert technical leadership in coordinating, facilitation, motivating, and directing efforts of cross functional program teams including individuals from Sales, Product Development, Advanced Quality, Purchasing and Manufacturing. Ensures efficient use of team resources.
Gains support for and develops program objectives/deliverables and ensures all groups involved understand customer demands for successful launch of a program. Objectives include timing, engineering support, internally and externally. Ensures customer and Company requirements are met including cost, quality, timing, and other related aspects of programs.
Works with internal and external resources to maintain strong customer relationships with dedication to customer program schedules. Ensures countermeasures are initiated to correct unfavorable variances by communicating alternative measures to the customer which may be used to solve engineering problems.
Documents and monitors program objectives by means of open issue lists, milestone reviews, and launch (manufacturing) readiness reviews.
Participates in continuous, improvement efforts, Researches, recommends, and initiates implementation of enhancements to products, processes and programs.
Performs other duties as necessary for completion of projects and achievement of goals. Supervises and/or provides work direction to other staff.
Knowledge and Education
- Bachelor’s degree plus minimum three (5) years experience with project management including a broad understanding of product development engineering practices, principles, procedures, processes, etc.; or equivalent. Possesses specific knowledge, expertise, and is technically current in product development field.
- Previous experience working with automotive OEM customers
- Successful experience working cross functionally with manufacturing teams, design teams
- Strong understanding of program management methodologies and practices
- Proven leadership within the automotive industry
