Work involves project design, research or experimental engineering through the development and testing of engineering projects where decisions are made within the limits of general practices and standards. Work without continual supervision, but employee is frequently instructed or checked by supervisor.
- Assists in scheduling and planning test programs
- Designs and builds test fixtures from existing designs and drawings
- Sets up and operates less complicated test devices and measurement tools
- Procures samples for test setup
- Gathers and analyzes data setups and writes related reports and procedures
- Assists in design and analysis or research on engineering projects
- Uses computer aided devices to perform more routine calculations
- Exchanges information with others
- Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project
- Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions
- Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise
- Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities
Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
- Basic understanding of engine function, engine controls and engine performance
- Diesel or Gas Engine Knowledge
- Demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communications
- Demonstrated teamwork and consensus building skills
- Ability to travel as required for offsite testing
- Accredited Engineering degree ore equivalent experience
Preferred:
- Demonstrated expertise testing engines or engine components
- Proficient with computer and data acquisition systems
- Experience in modeling and combustion analysis
- Engineering degree ME or EE
- High level of oral and written communication skills
- Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
- High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others
- Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area
- Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals
- Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to engineering
