Risk Management Services has an immediate opening for a Case Manager. This is a unique opportunity for someone with a medical claims and/or other insurance related background. The qualified candidate is someone who exercises critical thinking skills, independent judgement, relationship building and thrives in a fast paced environment.
The position reports directly to the Integrated Disability Manager and collaborates with employees, providers, outside resources, and the university community. The position will assess coverage, coordinate benefits and services, and work with the employee and university units to facilitate safe and timely return to work.
Establish 24 hour contact with Employee, Department, and Medical Provider
Develop facts relevant to the illness / injury
Develop a functional understanding of the employees job with the employee and supervisor
Develop secondary issues, medical or otherwise which may impact future outcomes
Establish a Strategic Plan for all parties (Employee, Department, Medical Provider) and communicate the plan as needed
Determine and communicate estimate on length of disability and any financial implications
Monitor initial plan with ongoing developments of recovery
Secure and fully evaluate all pertinent medical information, with full utilization of all applicable medical management strategies and services for both occupational and non-occupational disabilities to maximize return-to-work efforts
Consult with Nurse Case Managers on a regular basis and develop clear, concise, referrals when appropriate
Work with treatment providers to identify and facilitate effective treatment options
When appropriate, schedule and secure Independent Medical Examinations and communicate results with all stakeholders
Customer Service / Outreach
Develop and maintain a relationship with all stakeholders to understand their needs
Establish periodic outreach and communication to all stakeholders (customers) to evaluate needs and service requirements
Develop and present meaningful educational materials to customers and colleagues
Be a resource to others within Work Connections
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to prepare written reports and make oral presentations to a wide variety of audiences, while conveying messages in a clear and understandable fashion.
Leadership qualities, self-starter who accomplishes work with minimal supervision.
Team-oriented, maintain approachable and positive attitude with management and team members, resulting in increased collaboration and support for group initiatives.
Strong organizational skills, and the ability to proactively follow-up with all parties involved in the claim on a timely basis.
Experience in medical claims adjusting and/or other insurance related background
Experience and familiarity with claims risk management information systems
