Job Summary

The Brighton Center for Specialty Care is the newest University of Michigan Ambulatory Care facility dedicated to providing high quality health care services for adults and children. The brand new 2-story facility is located at 7500 Challis in Brighton, MI. We are actively seeking compassionate, enthusiastic, and patient-oriented individuals who will share in the goal of creating the ideal experience for our patients, families and employees.

Anticipated opening of the new Brighton Center for Specialty Care is September 2018.

Responsibilities*

  • Management of cancer patients under a collaborative agreement with designated primary physicians in medical and surgical oncology, participation with the multidisciplinary teams caring for newly diagnosed cancer patients, and managing surveillance/survivorship patients in an independent advanced practice provider run clinic.

  • Medical management of patients receiving active therapy including chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, novel agents on clinical trials, and supportive therapy management

  • Direct care and management would include: initiation of evaluation, admission and outpatient care of patients, patient and family education, counseling and support, collaboration with and referrals to other health care providers, and provision of education to nursing staff, students, and the community.

  • Review laboratory, pathology and radiographic tests results and interface with medical staff and patients regarding test results and plan of care.

  • Primary workplace in the outpatient ambulatory setting seeing new patient consultations and return visits including: performing history/ physical examination and patient evaluation, admission of patients, patient and family education, counseling and support, collaboration with and referrals to other health care providers, and provision of education to nursing staff, students, and the community.

  • Contribute to the development, modification and interpretation of cancer guidelines, policies, and procedures, including quality assurance activities.

  • Participate in clinical and translational research and function as a liaison to the clinical trials office, as needed.

  • Perform core and level II procedures as appropriate and in accordance to credentialing guidelines.

  • Collaborate and serve as a resource for the health care team members regarding the mission of the institution.

  • Work collaboratively with NP/PA colleagues in the provision of care for this patient population including covering for colleagues as needed.

  • Participate in workshops and CME activities pertinent to benign and malignant breast oncology. Attendance at programmatic meetings at University of Michigan Cancer Center, and occasionally attend regional or national meetings.

Roles and responsibilities may be periodically adjusted as determined by the needs of the Cancer Center Clinical Program.

Required Qualifications*

NP/PA

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as measured by references and interviews.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.

  • Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision.

NP:

  • Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.

  • Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult/Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Adult Primary Care Nurse Practitioner in the State of Michigan is preferred. Family Nurse Practitioners will be considered

  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.

  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).

  • 1-2 years minimum clinical experience as an advanced practice provider in medical or surgical oncology required

PA:

  • Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.

  • Satisfactory completion of a physician assistant program accredited by ARC-PA or one of its predecessor agencies.

  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

  • 1-2 years minimum clinical experience as an advanced practice provider in medical or surgical oncology required

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
