JOB SUMMARY: The Manager, Patient Financial Services is responsible and accountable for providing the leadership necessary to ensure the successful operation to meet the departments’ needs. Maximizes the effective use of organizational resources in achieving quality outcomes in the billing and collection of health care receivables in accord with payor requirements for health care services. Responsible for providing coordination of departmental activities and the resolution of operational issues. This position is responsible for managing to maintain and improve key performance indicators. The individual is responsible for designing, implementing and enforcing policies and procedures, as well as streamlining effective billing processes across multiple payers. This position is highly visible and requires a strong leader with the ability to prioritize, plan, and manage the functions of the department. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, and internal personal skills. Coordinates, monitors, and enhances organizational processes, procedures & systems related to the capture and reporting of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient demographic and insurance information, services provided and associated fees, payor authorizations, diagnoses and procedure codes, and other needed data in accordance with government regulations and payor contract requirements in partnership with suppliers.Administers policies and procedures for the reporting of personal liability to patients & guarantors while ensuring equity and consistency in the extension of credit and uncompensated care. Monitors, and enhances organizational processes, procedures, and systems related to the processing and reporting of payments and discounts in partnership with suppliers and customers.Functions successfully in an extremely challenging environment.Establishes a course of action for self and others to accomplish specific goals; planning proper assignments, and effective and efficient allocation of resources.Demonstrates leadership ability, communications, and interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with physicians, management, staff, external agencies/customers and patients/families.Analyzes costs and work schedules and establishes priorities.Coordinates departmental personnel matters pertaining to the employment, training, termination and grievance of staff members.Attends and participates in organizational activities including Management Team Meetings, Leadership Development Institute and other assigned meeting and/or committees.

MINIMUM EDUCATION:High School graduate with extensive college course work in accounting, finance or related area is required.Prior experience in medical receivables billing and collection, is required.Experience with personal computer word processing and spreadsheet softwareREQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree in Business, Accounting, Finance or related field.Three to five years’ experience directly related to hospital and/or professional health care receivables.Aptitude/experience with mainframe receivables management software.ICD9-CM and HCPC/CPT4 diagnosis and procedure coding experience and expertise.Demonstrated knowledge and use of continuous quality improvement philosophy and practices.
